In Enzo Ferrari’s final years, he frequently stated his desire to see a “Ferrari theme park”. Construction of the park began in 2003 and it was officially opened on 4 November 2010. The park is located on Yas Island, about 30 minutes from the city of Abu Dhabi. Ferrari World Abu Dhabi covers an area of 86,000 square metres and is the first Ferrari-themed park in the world. The park includes a variety of rides, shows and attractions, as well as a range of shopping and dining outlets. The centerpiece of the park is the world’s tallest roller coaster, “Formula Rossa“, which reaches speeds of up to 240 km/h. Other rides include the “G-Force”, “The Fiorano GT Challenge” and “The Flying Aces”. The park also features a range of educational attractions, including the “Ferrari Gallery” and the “Ferrari World Academy”.
We worked with sixty engineers on the four-year project, each of which contributed to every aspect of the park’s unique design from concept to completion. Fast track design and construction were the two key elements of the theme park project. The power consumption at 45 MVA is significant. Ventilation design for the scheme faced unique local challenges due to high temperatures and high levels of sand in the air. A modular unitised system is ideal for accelerated construction due to its low cost, simple structure, and efficiency. Prefabricated glass panels with aluminum frames have been placed in steel trusses every ten metres as part of the study, and software calculates the amount of energy heating energy produced by each window as it moves through the sun. The smoke management strategy at Ferrari World required a tailored approach to meet the complex structure’s needs. It was discovered that the smoke-free layer could be maintained to allow the population to be evacuated safely while also allowing fire-fighting access. The sprinkler system is installed throughout the park except in the roof area, where the smoke management design is threatened.
The Ferrari World has just been completed in three years. It will be open to the public at the end of October 2010, after the foundation stone was laid on November 3, 2007. More than 20 rides have been added to the Ferrari attraction in order to tell the story of the Italian automobile manufacturer.
The initiative entails investing $500 billion in infrastructure and development. Ferrari World is located beneath a massive triangle red roof on the 40-billion-dollar development site on Yas Island.
