How Do Car Batteries Work?
Posted by thecarguy in Mar, 2020
Car Batteries function similarly to a regular battery. They provide the necessary energy to make your car function the way it does. But it can seem a bit of a mystery how it does this, and what exactly does the car battery power? Below is a quick guide to look at what car batteries do and how.
Start-Up
Once your car gets rolling the engine is the main powerhouse that gets things moving. But before that, it needs to wake up. The moment you turn the ignition the car battery springs into life and provides the spark that allows the engine to get rolling. After that, the job of powering the engine is handed to the alternator.
Smaller Systems
Some of the smaller, yet still vital, systems of your car rely on the battery a lot more. Lighting, turn signals, radio lighting; both interior and exterior. This is why these devices can function while the engine is off. The battery, once activated, will provide power to these systems. But be aware that within the engine and alternator on you run the risk of draining the battery a lot faster and it can leave you high and dry with a flat battery when you need it most. These batteries at green-4-u do an excellent job of working consistently and will keep your car purring for times to come.
Jump-Start
Due to the nature of the reaction within the battery, you can salvage a flat battery by jump-starting it with another active battery. This is done as the voltage is flowing into the battery, rather than out, essentially doing to it what the battery normally does for the car and thus breathing new life into it. To this end, it is always handy to keep jumper cables in your car just in case.
